Tour Description
What does it feel like to travel back in time? Join us on our Private Skip-The-Line Colosseum Tour with Arena Floor and explore the heart of ancient Rome.
This private tour includes the three most important archaeological sites in the Eternal City: the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine Hill, with skip-the-line access to all of them.
1. The Colosseum Arena and the Gladiator’s Gate.
We begin our Private Colosseum Tour with Arena Floor at the Colosseum, undoubtedly the most impressive building in Rome.
Your professional tour guide will take you through the fascinating history of its construction—one of the greatest architectural achievements of the ancient world—and the brutal gladiatorial battles that took place within its walls.
You will have special access to the arena floor, where the gladiators fought, and you will walk through the “gate of death”, which the fighters used to enter the building and, if defeated, leave it, dead or alive.
Discover who the gladiators were and learn about their daily lives, the frequency of their fights, and what happened to them when they won.
Did they really flood the Colosseum for naval battles?
All your questions will be answered, giving you a glimpse into the thrilling spectacles that captivated Roman audiences.
2. The Roman Forum
The second stop of your Private Colosseum Tour with Arena Floor will be the Roman Forum, the most significant square in ancient Rome and the heart of Roman public life.
This was where Romans gathered to listen to the speeches of notable figures like Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, and Cicero.
It was a vibrant center where citizens voted, shopped at the market, worshiped the gods, and attended trials.
Roman leaders invested heavily in constructing grand and beautiful buildings that transformed the Forum into one of the most monumental districts in the world.
Here, emperors and generals celebrated their victories with massive parades called triumphs, during which the legions displayed prisoners and the spoils of war.
The Forum was also the place where Julius Caesar lived during the final years of his life, and where his body was burned on a giant pyre built by the crowds after his assassination.
As you explore, you’ll walk the very same paths that Caesar once did, surrounded by the grandeur of ancient Roman architecture.
3. The Palatine Hill and the Palace of the Emperors
The final stop of your Private Colosseum Tour with Arena floor is the Palatine Hill, the most important of Rome’s seven hills.
Over 2,700 years ago, a woman named Rea Silvia gave birth to twin sons: Romulus and Remus.
The babies were abandoned right after their birth. They were put in a basket in a swampy area called Velabrum.
Shortly after, a she-wolf found the cold and hungry twins and nursed them, saving their lives.
Years later, Romulus founded a city on the very hill where he and his brother were raised, marking the beginnings of Rome, which would grow into a vast empire.
Centuries after the city’s founding, the first Roman emperor, Augustus, built his palace on the Palatine Hill, establishing it as the official residence of Rome’s rulers.
Our tour guides will lead you through the expansive ruins of the imperial palaces, where emperors lived and governed.
Because of its elevated position, the hill also offers breathtaking views of the city, especially overlooking the Roman Forum below.
Conclude your journey with these stunning sights and immerse yourself in the fascinating stories of ancient Rome.
