Mormon Rome: visiting the new Rome Italy Temple

A new Mormon temple for Europe

There’s no shortage of places of worship in Rome – 4 papal basilicas, including St Peter’s Basilica, and an estimated 900 churches – but the construction of the LDS Rome Italy Temple is an exciting new development. Ever since the project was announced a decade ago, it has been attracting interest all over the world. After all, this temple will not just serve the 22,000 Church members in Italy, but also members from neighbouring countries such as Greece, Cyprus and Albania.

Members of the Church view the opening of the temple – scheduled for March 2019 – as an event of great significance. According to LDS President Russell M. Nelson, “The sacred ordinances performed in this holy temple will unite families for eternity. God loves all His children equally and has provided a way for them to be linked in love, generation to generation. We are thrilled to be able to dedicate a temple in this city replete with historical importance throughout the ages.”

The Rome Italy Temple

Located on the outskirts of northeastern Rome, the Rome Italy Temple is a vast construction, with a floor area of 40,000 square feet. The site is nearly 15 acres, and in addition to the temple there are numerous other buildings, including a visitors’ centre and accommodation for pilgrims. Although the temple is not quite complete, it’s already a striking feature on the Roman skyline, with two white spires and a 450 pound gold-leaf statue of the prophet Moroni. While it would be an eye-catching building anywhere, its location in the spacious, mainly residential suburbs of Rome mean that it stands out even more – an awe-inspiring new monument in the Eternal City.

Private tours for Mormon visitors to Rome

Roads to Rome Private Tours have years of experience of organising private tours for Mormon visitors. We offer a complete service, including hotel pick-up, transportation with a private driver to and from all sites, and in-depth tours of the Colosseum, the Vatican, and many more attractions.

Since construction work began on the Rome Italy Temple we have been bringing visitors to the site to witness the creation of a major new monument. While the temple can be accessed with public transport, it’s not exactly a straightforward trip from the city centre – you’ll have to go to the end of the metro line and then take two different buses to reach the temple. Rome’s buses are notoriously unreliable, and navigating your way across the city might be a challenge, especially if you’re a first-time visitor to Rome.

To make the most of your time in Rome and to enjoy a more relaxing visit to the Rome Italy Temple, we recommend booking a private tour. You’ll visit the temple in comfort, in the company of an expert guide, and afterwards you can enjoy a private tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, or any other ancient site that interests you. This “mix and match” tour, tailored to suit your needs and interests, is arguably one of the main benefits of booking a private tour in Rome.
