Tour Description
You’ve seen the Forum, the Colosseum, and the Palatine, but you have not had enough of Ancient Rome.
The Capitoline Museum
Well, if you want to have more of it, there is the Capitoline Museum, which hosts the most important collection of Roman artifacts in the Eternal City. It is also the first museum in the world; it was, in fact, established in 1471.
The Museum is housed in three buildings located on top of the Capitoline Hill, where the Roman kings built the main temple of Jupiter over 2500 years ago.
The hill is one of the prettiest spots in Rome, as the Capitoline Square and its surrounding buildings were designed by Michelangelo in the mid-1500s. The legendary artist created a unique setting, which embodies the idea of Renaissance architecture.
Your professional guide will lead you through marvelous rooms, decorated with colorful frescoes. The museum is so full of history that it will satisfy even the most voracious history buffs.
The Masterpieces
In the lovely Room of the Bronzes, you will see the world-famous statue representing the She-Wolf suckling Romulus and Remus.
Why is it the symbol of Rome, and why did Romulus kill his twin brother? Ask your guide: all your questions will be answered!
In the same room, you can also admire the equestrian bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius and the fragments of a colossal statue of Constantine.
You will then walk around the remains of the temple of Jupiter, whose foundations made of stone blocks still challenge time, and see its colorful terracotta decorations.
These are only some of the many masterpieces that make the Capitoline Museum an unmissable stop for every Roman history lover.
Don’t miss the chance to complete your Ancient Rome experience with a tour of the Capitoline collection. It’ll be an important chapter in your Roman Holiday journal!
