Tour Description
You’ve only got one day in Venice and you want to see it all? Our Venice in One Day Tour is exactly what you’re looking for.
During a full day in the enchanted city of the Lagoon, you will see St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. You’ll visit the New Prisons – once home to Casanova – and cross the Bridge of Sighs. Along the way, you’ll also explore the historic districts of Castello and Rialto.
1. Rialto
Your Venice in One Day Tour will start in the Rialto district, famous worldwide for its beautiful bridge and the traditional market (open in the morning from Tuesday to Saturday).
Your private guide will show you these popular attractions and then take you off the beaten path. You’ll explore the lesser-known parts of the Rialto and St. Mark’s neighborhoods, and have a taste of the local life.
The atmospheric alleys of Venice can feel like a labyrinth. But don’t worry about finding your way around the intricate maze of the canals. Your guide will lead you through this picturesque neighborhood, making sure you enjoy every square, church and canal – every inch of this unique city.
After spending a couple of hours exploring Venice, it will be time for a lunch break. Your guide will happily recommend a traditional restaurant or cafe (lunch not included in the price).
You can try some of the most delicious Venetian dishes, such as risi e bisi (a kind of pea risotto), pasta cooked with cuttlefish ink or anchovy sauce, or whipped salt cod.
Afterwards, you’ll be ready to continue your Venice in One Day Tour.
2. St. Mark’s Basilica
In the afternoon, you’ll see the most famous highlights of the city: St. Mark’s Square and Basilica, and the Doge’s Palace.
Your guide will take you to St. Mark’s Square, which is surrounded by masterpieces of architecture. Napoleon is said to have described the square as “the most beautiful drawing room in Europe”. As you stroll through this elegant piazza, you’ll understand why.
Then, you’ll enter the magnificent Basilica of St. Mark (we’ll have skip-the-line tickets), one of the most impressive churches in Italy.
St. Mark’s Basilica is where East and West meet, and where the Byzantine and the Roman Catholic traditions merge to create something completely original.
Your guide will teach you about the history and the architecture of this extraordinary building, revealing the secrets of its golden mosaics, decorations, and design.
Is the body of St. Mark the Evangelist really kept in the Basilica? How did it get there? Take advantage of your private guide’s expertise, and ask as many questions as you want!
3. The Doge’s Palace
Your Venice in One Day tour will continue with a visit to the Doge’s Palace, the residence of Venetian rulers for centuries.
This magnificent building is one of the masterpieces of Gothic architecture.
Your guide will lead you through its spectacular rooms, where you can admire famous paintings by Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiziano, and other masters of the Venetian Renaissance.
The Doge’s Palace was not only the seat of Venetian power, where the Great Council gathered, but it was also a courthouse and a jail.
It’s the smallest country in the world and, in proportion, the country with the richest art collection.
4. The Bridge of Sighs
On your way out, you’ll cross the famous Bridge of Sighs to reach the Prigioni Nuove (New Prisons).
Here, your guide will tell you the incredible story of the most famous prisoner in the Doge’s Palace: Giacomo Casanova.
He was imprisoned in the nearby “Piombi” prison for more than a year, before he eventually managed to escape through the roof and leave the city on a gondola.
Forget about big groups and standard excursions. There are much more relaxing and enjoyable ways to experience a city.
Choose our Venice in One Day Tour and see as much as possible of Venice in the most comfortable, informative, and entertaining way!
